Linda is a longtime caterer who opened up to the public a couple years back. Great, healthy, delicious food. Don't miss this.Open for Lunch and for early dinner and takeout. From RR 12 turn on River Road (stop light) and look to your left Juan Henry's Restuarant and Club - Old Wimberley standby. The fajitas are as good as they come and the big order will feed a family of three.Try the beef. Also try the enchiladas mole or the rellenos. Mexican and American food. Drinks. Drinks Marco's Italian Restaurant- Marco and his wife are from Italy and this is far from a pizza joint as it serves a full Italian menu, however the pizza is exceptional. Great place for dinner. See if you can get an outdoor table. Bring a bottle of wine and enjoy. Located in the square..take the block, you will find it. Great place for a beer or cocktail Gourmet Tamale Kitchen - Without a doubt the healthiest, best tasting tamales I have ever had in my life and I have had more than a few. "Hand Rolled". I once saw a woman from Ohio loading a cooler of these tamales to take back home. Not a sit down restaurant. Orders to take home. Head south on RR 12 towards the Junction and look for Jean's Antiques on your left. 847-0123 Wimberley Pie Company- You name your pie, they probably make it. Try the cherry. Been here for years. mmmmmmmmmmm.enough said. On RR 12 just south of the square. 512-847-9462 Wimberley Brew Pub- Bruce Collie, former San Francisco 49er and long time Wimberleyite has just opened (Feb 09) Wimberley's first brew pub. They make their own and serve a few others besides. Great place to sit out and enjoy the hill country. Great pizza. Drive south on RR 12 through Wimberly until you dead end at the top of the hill. Fun things to do in Wimberley. The Corral Theatre - It's a summertime thing. Much like the drive-ins of old but this one you walk into with your lawn chair and cooler. One of my favorite Wimberley pastimes. Sit out under the stars and watch a first run movie. Showtime is at dusk but get there early for a good seat. Steel metal rockers are provided or bring your favorite lawn chair. 512-847-5994. The Blue Hole - Great place to bring the family for a cool dip in Cypress Creek. Swing off the Cypress trees that line the banks of this scenic creek, Great place for a picnic. Wimberley Glassworks - Go by and look at the incredible glass work they do here and make sure you stay and watch a demonstration of glass blowing. Call for times 512-393-3316. Wimberley Square - Shopping and restaurants of every kind. Lots of unique stores. It is hard to survive in Wimberley if you are not unique. Wimberley Zipline Adventures - Eight lines of fun, beautiul hill country scenes and what a delight flying through the trees. Mike and Christie are great hosts. 512-847-9990. The Wimberley Players - this group has been putting on shows here for some twenty years. A new playhouse has added to the joy of watching various performances throughout the year. Market Days - Held the first Saturday of every month March - December at Lions Field off FM 2325. Second largest outdoor market in Texas with over 400 vendors. Quicksand Golf Corse - 18 hole par 72 course that winds through the City of Woodcreek, two miles north of the Wimberley square off RR12. Jacobs Well- favorite swimming hole of local Wimberley kids for decades. This is where Cypress Creek originates. Discovered by settlers in the 1850's but the Commanche knew it way before. Beautiful, lovely Some eerie history, Click here for details. Rivers and Creeks of Wimberley- This is alot of what Wimberley is all about. If you are coming during the summer months find a way to stay on the Blanco or deep point on Cypress Creek. You will appreciate the beauty and the refreshing waters. Mt. Baldy (Prayer Mountain)- 219 steps to the top. Beautiful views of the Wimberley Valley. Great sunsets. Bring water and appropriate hiking shoes. Click on link for directions. Shakespeare Under the Stars - July 27th through August 8th. Kids come from all over the state to attend this highly accredited Shakespeare "school" where they learn set design, wardrobe and of course acting. Check link for this years productions. Outdoors at the EmilyAnn Theatre. Devils Backbone -Take a drive. Head south on RR 12 until it dead ends. Take a right and go 3-4 miles and start looking on your right. Some of the prettiest long distance hill country views to be found in the state of Texas. There is a roadside park which is convenient to pull over. Turn the radio on - We are blessed with some of the finest music in America. Try KNBT 92.1 FM for Americana at it's best featuring local artists (New Braunfels based station). You will probably hear Wimberley musicians Alejandro Escovedo , Ray Wylie Hubbard and Willis Alan Ramsey amongst many other great muscians. KUT 90.5 is an Austin station with great music and hosts. |
Wimberley SchoolsWimberley is designated 3A classification among Texas schools which has to do with amount of students attending a school district. For out of staters classification size in Texas ranges from 5A (largest) to 1A (smallest) . Wimberley is blessed to have great academics including an incredible string of appearances at the state UIL theatre competition to individual academic championships to a state championship in football (2005) to many state championships in volleyball. I have had children go through the Wimberley school system and I was very pleased with the wide array of opportunities that are offered to our students. Other Wimberley Schools: Katherine Anne Porter School - accredited public charter school founded by members of the Katherine Anne Porter Museum in 1998. Founded to provide a free and open environment for kids and faculty focussing on small classed and individual learning. St. Stephen's Episcopal School - Founded in 1989 and open to all kids from 2 year olds through 8th grade. Small coeducational school located on 51 acres just outside Wimberley.
Universities near Wimberley : Texas State University - With an enrollment of over 20,000, Texas State (formerly Southwest Texas State) has become one of the premiere Universitites in Texas. It is located some fifteen miles from Wimberley in the town of San Marcos. The University of Texas at Austin - Located a short 45 minute drive from Wimberley sits the University of Texas in all its glory. Wimberley is a great place to live for die hard Longhorn fans who want to remain active in university functions. Hookem Horns.
